Adam Smith (1723 – 1790) was a Scottish economist, philosopher and author, identified by many as the father of modern capitalist economic theory.
Whilst Smith’s work was not intended as economic theory, his accounts on the division of labour, free trade, and other pseudo-economic ideas in his two classic works: An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations (1776) and The Theory of Moral Sentiments (1759) have been enormously influential on modern economic theory.
