In Greek mythology, Achilles or Achilleus was a Greek hero of the Trojan War.
He was the central character and the greatest warrior of Homer’s Iliad. His mother was the immortal Nereid Thetis, and his father, the mortal Peleus, was the king of the Myrmidons.
Achilles was famously invincible other than one of his heels. The term ‘Achilles’ heel’ has thus come to mean a point of weakness, and the tendon in the heal is also named afer him.
