She was an accomplished theorist of the Neoplatonic school in Alexandria where she taught astronomy and philosophy. She was a great teacher and counselor, and it is believed she she wrote surviving commentaries on the Almagest and the Arithmetica (two of the most influential early texts in the subjects of science and mathematics).
She is seen as a modern icon for women’s rights and a precursor to feminism, as she inspired generations of philosophers and ambitious women to break societal barriers to reach their goals.
